VMware alternative VergeIO is announcing faster VMware migrations and simplified remote site configurations with VergeOS v26.2.
VergeIO secured new undisclosed funding this year and added ex-VMware leaders to its board, including former VMware CTO Kit Colbert and a past VMware ecosystem executive. The firm also appointed Parag Patel as its new CEO. Patel previously served as VP of Worldwide Sales for Hyperconverged Software, the same category as VergeOS, a robust hyperconverged platform.
VergeIO is ramping up efforts to serve as a VMware replacement for hundreds of thousands of VMware customers impacted by price increases under Broadcom’s ownership. It seeks to displace VMware through a superior, more affordable hyperconverged virtual machine solution and enhanced AI capabilities compared to VMware.

Parag Patel, CEO, stated: “VergeIO focuses on simplifying infrastructure design and operations by helping customers move away from legacy stacks, reuse existing hardware to offset data center cost inflation, manage any quantity of distributed data centers, and prepare for on-premises AI workloads. Today’s release enables IT teams to carry out a faster, less disruptive, and more complete VMware migration.”
The v26.2 release accelerates VMware migrations via updated changed block tracking technology. It adds asynchronous I/O for network block device (NBD) transfers, speeding up both initial full backups and final cutover transfers by 120 percent, delivering a 2.2x performance boost for VergeOS v26.2.
V26.2 supports Microsoft Failover Clustering on VergeFS, its native storage feature that pools commodity server drives into a highly scalable, high-performance vSAN-like system. Windows workloads such as Microsoft SQL Server commonly depend on Microsoft Failover Clustering, which needs shared disks and SCSI-3 Persistent Reservations. VergeIO notes this constraint previously forced many customers to deploy dedicated storage arrays, delayed numerous VMware migrations, or required running two separate hypervisors. The new Failover Clustering support resolves this pain point.

Distributed deployments such as retail point-of-sale systems often use single-server local data centers that replicate data back to a central VergeOS cluster. VergeOS 26.2 reduces hardware requirements for these remote sites to one server paired with two network links, with no mandatory core network. This allows customers to include these branch locations during their VMware transition.
With fresh funding and three former VMware executives on board, VergeIO is clearly targeting the growing pool of VMware customers looking to switch vendors, by delivering cost reductions, streamlined migrations, and upcoming AI inference and agent functionality.
VergeOS 26.2 is available immediately, with further information found in its official datasheet.
