Hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) vendor Virtuozzo has consolidated its multiple products into one unified platform, the Virtuozzo Infrastructure System (V/IS). Positioned as AI-native infrastructure, the solution is built with AI, by AI, and for AI workloads.
The firm offers a cost-effective VMware migration alternative, appealing to SMBs strained by Broadcom’s substantial price hikes after acquiring VMware. Virtuozzo predominantly serves MSPs, which contribute 90% of its revenue, enabling them to host SMB tenants and SaaS businesses. Aligning with the booming AI trend, the vendor unifies its product lineup under an AI-centric framework, allowing customers to deliver AI-as-a-Service and GPU-as-a-Service for AI training and inference. Its latest update adds GPU metering and management functions to the admin panel.
CEO Kurt Daniel stated: “AI is pivotal to how we develop our product today, how it operates and how our users benefit from it. Our Infrastructure System is co-designed to ensure maximum performance and efficiency from modern hardware, helping our customers and partners run and monetize AI with better utilization, lower overhead, and 60-80 percent less total cost of ownership (TCO) with a typical hosting setup versus competitive offerings.”
Daniel noted in a briefing: “We’re an operating system company, like Red Hat, SUSE, Microsoft and VMware.”
Company founder Serg Bell stepped down recently to take a vision-focused role as Chief Constructor, while Daniel was appointed CEO in February. Bell provides strategic product guidance, having previously rescued Acronis by refocusing it on MSPs. The turnaround drove Acronis to $400–500 million ARR with robust growth and a successful exit.
V/IS integrates five core components:

V/OS: An optimized Linux kernel supporting VMs and containers, delivering near bare-metal performance with minimal overhead and high workload density.

V/Orchestration: Unified orchestration for compute, storage, networking and Kubernetes, facilitating seamless AI workload deployment and scaling.

V/Management: Centralized infrastructure control to optimize resource utilization and simplify large-scale operations.

V/Automation: Native automation for provisioning, billing and customer management, enabling simplified AI and GPU service monetization.

V/Protection: Integrated Acronis-powered backup, disaster recovery and cybersecurity to safeguard data-intensive AI environments.
The platform previously featured four separate SKUs: V/IS (infrastructure), V/Server (compute), V/Storage (unified block, file and object storage), and V/AM (application management), which have now been merged. A cloud-hosted V/Cloud service is also available.
Daniel emphasized Virtuozzo’s simplified licensing strategy: “We adopt a streamlined approach, unlike Oracle and VMware’s complex SKU systems and premium pricing for large enterprises. While we serve enterprise clients, they are not our primary focus.”
Virtuozzo leverages internal AI tools for production-grade code development. Daniel confirmed the AI-generated code is stable and deployed commercially, highlighting the OS’s inherent efficiency optimization.
The platform overlaps with several competitors: it shares sovereign edge cloud and virtualized datacenter concepts with Zadara; differs from enterprise-focused Nutanix with lower pricing; and contrasts with Scale Computing, which sells hardware and targets SMBs and enterprises rather than MSPs.
Employing over 250 staff, Virtuozzo operates across 80+ countries with around 550 MSP and channel partners, maintaining accelerating growth. Its partners are actively building AI service capabilities to evolve into neocloud providers. V/IS is now globally available for partners and customers.
